Old Friend

Old friend, don’t look at what you’ve seen
Don’t think of where you’ve been
What you’ve done can’t speak of who you are

Oh, for years I had this wrong
Unsure where I was from
But these days it’s more about where I belong

Sure, I’ve had my doubts
They still come in from time to time
They wrestle for the quiet little corners of my mind
But then that still small voice,
The one that I once let inside
Whispers to me that I know my home

Oh, the storms raged all around
And people let you down
But people are just people after all

Oh, reflections are just that
Not the real artefact
But fractions of the source they aim to glow

Sure, I’ve had my doubts
They still come in from time to time
They wrestle for the quiet little corners of my mind
But then that still small voice,
The one that I once let inside
Whispers to me that I know my home

Oh, the choice is ours to make
And it won’t lead us the same way, no
So look beyond the things you’ve known
To where that fire glows
That’s the place to call your own

Oh, for years I had this wrong
Unsure where I was from
But these days it’s more about where I belong

Sure, I’ve had my doubts
They still come in from time to time
They wrestle for the quiet little corners of my mind
But then that still small voice,
The one that I once let inside
Whispers to me that I know my home
